This hand-carved and painted mask from Guerrero has been danced. It shows signs of contact with the face on the rear and has some cracks from dance “combat,” but is intact. The paint is worn in places on the front side. Rare find. The dance of the Aguila or Eagle dates to the Aztec time, when warriors wore eagle or jaguar masks to represent the strengths of these fierce animals that they wanted to bring with themselves into battle. 5 3/4”W X 8”L X 6”D.
