The images in these necklaces are reproductions of images on holy cards that are over 100 years old. These holy cards were given to my father to celebrate his confirmation in New Orleans sometime around 1910. (Yes, he was more than a generation older than me!) They were one of his most precious possessions. When I was a child, he would open the old wooden cigar box that he kept them in and proudly show them to me. I found the box again a few years ago. These cards were made by a famous French company and most are in French, the primary language spoken by my father’s family as well as other French families in New Orleans at that time.
The original cards are amazing in detail and many have beautiful embossed paper lace edges. I reduced the images in size and copied them onto a hard medium suitable for jewelry. The images are durable and coated with sealer for protection.
All necklaces are one-of-a-kind, like all of my jewelry. The beads used in each necklace are described in the details accompanying each image.
