Tigre costume from Guerrero is 20+ years old. The costume is painted canvas
(painted on back and front) and has very long legs. The handcarved wood mask
is complemented by the matching carved wooden miniature masks on the front of
the costume. There are cracks in the paint (but not the canvas) indicating creasing
during carrying to markets. These costumes with the small masks down the front
were made for sale to tourists. We can find no evidence of their having really
been worn for dances. However, they are extremely well-made, are good decorative
pieces, and have merit for that reason. We have reduced the price since we have
found out that they were not worn for dances.
