Mexican Folk art for Sale

The following is a selection of our older pieces of folk art for sale. These come from private collectors who often have to sell pieces in their collections. Ages vary from ten to 30 years old. Most of these pieces are either not made today or are of a finer quality than work made now by the same artist. Some are rare treasures. Information on each piece was provided by the owners and is true to the best of their knowledge.

Packing and shipping are extra. Many of these items require special packing, so packing on those is more expensive than that on most of our newer items. The churches below are part of a large collection acquired over a thirty year period by a Houston area collector.

Figures below the churches are ten or more years old. The Teodora Blanco nativity was found in a Houston estate sale and was done by the famous artist between the mid 1970's and late 1980's. The Guillermina Aguilar water jugs and animal bells were all part of a different collection.

	CHURCH 1. Painted clay Candelario Medrano. Very Unusual shape with round arch. Part of a private collec- tion sold by Que Milagro in Houston over a decade ago. 13 3/4"W X 20 1/2"H X 7 1/2"D. (Height is to tip of cross.) $1200.	CHURCH 2 Large Medrano - orig. acquired by Mary Ann Grant of Que Milagro in Houston who said it was made by Candelario but signed by Serapio right after Candelario's death. A PRIZE PIECE of the collection! 25 yrs. 12 1/2"W X 27 1/2" H X 8 1/4" D. $2,100	CHURCH 3 Small geometric Candelario Medrano- one of his last pieces, red steeples with figure in center. Some restorations to L. steeple. Over 25 yrs. Old. 6 1/2"W X 16"H X 3 3/4"D. $675	CHURCH 4 Very large rare Heron Martinez church CROWN JEWEL of the collection! Burnished natural clay. CHURCH 5 Painted ceramic church made in Mexico. It appears to have been painted by an American artist. It is 12-15 years old. 8"W X 15"H X 5"D. $175	CHURCH 6 Large white painted clay church with geo- metric patterning in red, dark blue, & turquoise, said to be painted by Heron Martinez's daughter. CHURCH 15 Small green Mexican church, painted by the collector. 5"W X 8"H X 6 1/2"D. $65	. CHURCH 16 Small white Mexican church, painted by the collector. 5 3/8" W X 9 1//4" H X 6 1/2" D. $65	CHURCH 17 Mexican clay church painted in yellow, pink & blue & signed by an American artist "PS." 7"W X 14"H X 4 1/2"D. $125	BLANCO NATIVITY This two-sided nativity has a Last Supper scene on the other side. Believed to be by Teodora Blanco. 7" W X 8.5" D X 10.25" H. $475.	HERON NATIVITY This nativity by Heron Martinex is 13 1/4" high (to the tip of the decorations), 12 1/2" wide, and 10 1/2" deep. Age: approx. 25 yrs. ( I think that the black figure on the far left was added to the scene by the owner and is not a Martinez figure.)
JOSEFINA ARK This incredible ark by Josefina Aguilar comes with Noah and his family and 19 pairs of animals! The ark itself is 16" W X 8"D X 7"H. The people are about 3 1/2 ' tall and the entire assemly will fit on a 30"X 60" table. We commissioned it for a customer over a dozen years ago and she is now selling it. The set is in perfect condition and is one of the neatest Josefina pieces we have ever seen! $2400.	JARRA2 This animal jug features a bird's head decked in flowers.
